A DIALOG PICTURE FOR AIRBUS AND THEIR NEW MODULAR CONCEPT
  • Aerospace
  • Dialogbild

The Airbus plant in Hamburg-Finkenwerder is the largest Airbus site in Germany. Among other things, this is where the final assembly of the well-known A320 family takes place. As part of an internal restructuring, sequential line production is being converted to a mixed production organization, with the first half of production taking place in a synchronized area and the second half at a modular station. This means that various activities per aircraft that currently take place at several stations will be carried out at a single station.

The new modular concept is to be made visually understandable to production employees with the aid of a dialog picture, and the advantages and opportunities for all those involved are to be highlighted.

During a comprehensive tour of the factory, the DIALOGBLD team had everything shown to them in detail and took photos so that the individual machines and production steps could be depicted as authentically as possible in the final dialog picture.

The finished dialog picture will be displayed prominently in the production halls for everyone to see and will be used for internal workshops.

INTERVIEW WITH THE CLIENT

Thomas Linder

Project manager "Modular Operations A320 Family Endmontagelinien Hamburg"

How did the idea to create a mission statement come about?

About ten years ago, a mission statement was created for the Final Assembly Lines (FAL) in Hamburg. In the meantime, there have of course been a number of innovations. In order to show the current status of the FAL and the technologies, initiatives, and concepts that are being used, we decided to create a new image.

Why did you decide to create a dialog picture?

We were facing a major change in production facilities, organizations, and processes that had to be made clear to all colleagues. Our dialog picture clearly and comprehensively shows precisely this changed target vision for our production process. With the help of the many details in the image, principles and clear requirements can be quickly conveyed.

How did the development of the dialog picture proceed?

The dialog picture was created through collaboration between the members of the project team. There was also a workshop during which ideas were expressed and visualized live. This is how the first sketch for today's mission statement was created. Subsequently, several feedback loops took place, during which we made fine adjustments.

Is there a key scene?

The scene in which the finished aircraft is handed over to the customer line! It shows the end of a long process that we can only achieve together. It is a beautiful symbol of how the various employees carry the golden aircraft across the finish line together.

How is the mission statement used?

We use the mission statement and the explanation of it in reorganization workshops and team workshops, among other things. The depth of detail makes discussions more lively and makes many things clearer. We have cut out the key scenes and explain the intention and thought process behind them. The dialog picture also hangs in poster or canvas format in some of our premises as a mission statement for the A320 Family FALs Hamburg.
